ARTIST STATEMENT
Photography can transform an ordinary subject into something ethereal or
sinister depending on the light. It can report and record events or
single moments in time. It can tell stories real or imagined and it has
the ability to disclose a person’s soul in the click of a shutter. A
single photograph has the power to move, shape, and question the way we
view our world.
I come from a family of storytellers and, as a photographer, my work has
a strong narrative thread running through it. Some of the stories I tell
are literal and include text. Others are more poetic with each image
telling its own story. I am drawn to themes of loss and of hope,
belonging and longing to belong and of the ties that bind us together or
split us apart. Themes that are a part of our daily lives and culture.
